Happy First Day of Spring! Refreshing Lilly Pad for Wine Cocktail Wednesday


It’s the first day of Spring, and we can’t wait for the fresh, crisp air and the warm breezes. Today’s Wines by Wives Wine Cocktail Wednesday drink is a preview of the wonderful season of new beginnings, cool nights, and blowy afternoons. The Lily Pad, is made with Pinot Grigio, and is as refreshing and relaxing as having brunch outside on a Spring morning. 4 oz. Pinot Grigio (Try Wines by Wives St. Marina Pinot Grigio: http://bit.ly/WBWSMPG)
1.5 oz Lime Juice Mixer
3 oz Lemon Wedges, and a splash of soda


Build in a glass over ice. Squeeze lemon wedge on top. Stir. You can garnish with a lime wedge.

It’s after 12:00 pm! Wines by Wives Wine Cocktail Wednesday: Apple Pie in the Sky


What is more comforting than apple pie? For us, it’s wine version of apple pie! Try this cocktail with our new Moscato http://bit.ly/WBWDCMoscato


2 ounces Moscato (shop Wines by Wives Moscato http://bit.ly/WBWDCMoscato)

2 ounces apple juice

1/4 ounce honey

1/2 ounce clear cinnamon schnapps

Combine liquids in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to blend and chill.
Strain into cinnamon and sugar rimmed cocktail glass. (to coat the rim in cinnamon sugar, moisten the rim and dip into sugar. You can also garnish by using an apple slice dipped in the cinnamon sugar)

Wine Cocktail Wednesday: Honey-Pomegranate Mulled Wine


For this Wines by Wives wine cocktail Wednesday we have a simple, Honey-Pomegranate Mulled Wine. This spicy warm cocktail is great for chillier winter nights. Try it with any of our great red wines: http://bit.ly/WBWRedWines


  • 1 Bottle of Red Wine (low-mid range Zinfindels and Cabs work well)
  • 2 cups pomegranate juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 teaspoon whole clove


  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large heavy pot, like a dutch oven, or your crock-pot.
  2. Stir well to dissolve the honey, slowly warm over low heat, without boiling.
  3. Keep it barely hot all day, topping up with more wine, juice, and honey.
  4. Serve in mugs or thick, heat-safe glass.

Wines by Wives Wine Cocktail Wednesday: San Francisco Sangaree


The red color of today’s Wines by Wives Wine Cocktail Wednesday drink got us first, then we saw it included cherries and couldn’t resist! We think this will be a hit at the Thanksgiving table. Try this with our newest 2009 Bargetto Merlot

4 cherries
¼ oz. simple syrup
1½ oz. merlot
1 oz. bourbon
1 lemon slice
To make simple syrup, mix equal parts hot water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Muddle cherries in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, simple syrup, wine, bourbon, and lemon slice. Shake and strain into a glass.

Wines by Wives’ Wine Cocktail Wednesday: Ice Wine Martini


Got any green grapes around? Try this simple twist on the Martini!


– 12 large seedless green grapes (2 halved grapes for garnish)
– 2 ounces ice wine
– 2 ounces vodka
– Ice

Directions: In a blender, puree the 10 whole grapes with the ice wine and vodka. Pour the puree through a tea strainer into an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain again into a large chilled martini glass and garnish with the grape halves.
